Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Jacksonville Falls at FGCU as Craig Makes History

The Jacksonville women's basketball team fell 78-64 to the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles Thursday night, but sophomore forward Saniyah Craig made history despite the result. She grabbed a school-record 23 boards in the Dolphins loss, also setting a new single-season rebounding record.

Craig surpassed JU legend Kayla Gordon, who previously held the record with 317 rebounds in the 2017-18 season. The sophomore from Phoenix, Arizona, has 326 rebounds and counting this year.

Despite a historic night for Craig, Jacksonville came up short against the league-leading Eagles. Early in the game, though, the Dolphins were all over FGCU on its home floor.

Craig and graduate student forward Makayla Edwards took advantage of the size mismatch in the paint, scoring early buckets down low. Senior guard Priscilla Williams muscled her way inside to snag an offensive rebound and hit a pair of free throws to give JU an 8-2 lead early.

The Dolphins led 15-7 midway through the quarter, but the Eagles pulled back late in the first to take a slight 21-20 lead, but Jacksonville was firmly in the game.

FGCU pulled away slightly in the second quarter, but the Dolphins stayed within striking distance. Williams drained a 3-pointer halfway through the quarter to make it a five point game, but the Eagles went to the locker room with an 11-point advantage.

Jacksonville found more success offensively in the third, but FGCU pushed their lead to 20 at the end of the third. The Dolphins never quit fighting, however, and outscored the Eagles 23-17 in the fourth quarter.

Game Notes
  • Craig has grabbed 20 or more rebounds twice this season. She grabbed 20 rebounds against Florida A&M on November 18, 2024.
  • Craig is the first player in JU history with 10 or more offensive and defensive rebounds in one game.
  • Williams finished with a season-high 20 points. She also grabbed eight rebounds.
  • Williams has scored 15 or more points in seven of the Dolphins' ASUN games this year.
  • Four Dolphins scored in double figures: Williams, Craig, Edwards and senior guard Edyn Battle.
