QUEENS, NY - The Jacksonville University men's lacrosse team defeated St. John's 11-10 in overtime on the road.
Ethan LaMond scored off a dodge late in the overtime period to clinch JU's third straight victory.
How It Happened
St. John's had the first breakthrough of the game, scoring with 12:16 left in the first.
Jack Taylor, off an assist from
Jackson Intrieri, answered, but St. John's continued to push making it a 4-1 game late in the first quarter.
Daylin John-Hill continued to be an important offensive contributor, making it 4-2 with 18 seconds left in the opening quarter.
Another goal for St. John's made it 5-2 before the Dolphins comeback bid began, scoring two straight to make it a 5-4 game at the halftime break.
A quick score for the Red Storm in the third made it 6-4 before JU came roaring back, scoring five straight goals to take a 9-6 lead into the fourth quarter.
LaMond earned his first of the game with 12:20 left in the third, and
Dalton Hubbs tied it up just 17 seconds later. Another pair of scores came next, with
Drew Kessenich scoring to take JU's first lead of the game. Kessenich's goal was followed by a
Nicky Brown and
Jackson Intrieri connection that made it 9-6.
The Red Storm would not go down quietly, scoring four straight of their own to take a 10-9 lead over Jacksonville late in the fourth.
The freshman
Daylin John-Hill found a way once again, tying things up at 10 just moments later at the 1:14 mark of the fourth quarter. Neither side could find the winner in the final minute of regulation, leading to the first overtime game for JU this season and St. John's second straight of the year.
Finally, with just 1:10 left in the overtime period,
Ethan LaMond found an open lane and secured the victory for Jacksonville.

JU will remain in the Empire State, facing Iona on Sunday, March 2nd at 12:00 PM on the road. It will be the first meeting between the two programs as Iona continues the program's first ever season.
