Jacksonville Falls to #4 North Carolina in Chapel Hill

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Jacksonville University men's lacrosse team fell 20-7 to the fourth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels on Sunday (March 16).

How It Happened
The Dolphins struck first, with Ethan LaMond giving Jacksonville the early 1-0 lead. North Carolina would take control following JU taking the early lead, led by Owen Duffy's (UNC) five first half goals.

The Tar Heels would score five unanswered before LaMond found the back of the net once again. Daylin John-Hill would take a pass from Nicky Brown at the crease shortly after, getting the Dolphins to pull back within two at the 2:48 mark of the first.

Another five-goal run for UNC would stretch the lead to 11-3 before Nicky Brown and Drew Kessenich scored two straight to make it an 11-5 game.

Kessenich's goal was the biggest highlight of the day for JU, scoring from midfield as the shot clock expired.

North Carolina would extend the lead from there, finishing things off with a 20-7 final.

The Numbers Head Coach John Galloway
"Today was another humbling moment for our group, but one that will give us a chance to learn so much about what we will need to address to be competitive in May. As our bye week approaches, we will hit the reset button and begin our conference slate with a hunger to grow and a "why" behind what we do.

From now on, every day we are fighting for a chance to extend our time together. I love our group, and I am so excited to accept this challenge with them. We are going to shut our engines down and get ready for the second season, ASUN play."
