JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Dolphins announced Saturday the departure of men's basketball associate head coach
Michael Fly.
Fly joined the Dolphins in 2023 after a four-year head coaching stint at FGCU and after serving on the staff at the University of Missouri. Fly leaves Jacksonville to join the staff at Florida State University under first-year head coach Luke Loucks.
"Mike's a great coach that not only teaches the game, but also inspires, motivates and shapes character," head coach
Jordan Mincy said. "His guidance, dedication and belief in JU have made a lasting impact. Though he may be moving on, the lessons he's imparted will stay with us forever. Thank you for everything!"
Fly is one of the first staff hires Loucks has made in Tallahassee. He will be making his coaching return with the Seminoles after serving as a video coordinator for the program for three seasons under Leonard Hamilton. FSU made the NCAA Tournament in all three of those seasons.
At Jacksonville, Fly helped oversee the team's historic run this past season which featured seven consecutive conference wins and a six-game road ASUN winning streak.
Fly was instrumental in helping to develop Jacksonville's fast-paced offense which saw players like
Robert McCray V develop into the ASUN Preseason Player of the Year and
Chris Arias into an ASUN All-Freshman Team honoree this past season.
"I am excited to join coach Loucks' staff at Florida State but my family and I are going to miss JU and the Jacksonville community immensely," Fly said. "From the time I stepped on campus,
Alex Ricker-Gilbert, coach Mincy, the staff and the players made JU feel like home. Jacksonville will always hold a special place in our hearts. The Fly family will most certainly be rooting for the Dolphins in every game from Tallahassee! 'Phins Up and Go Noles."
Fly will not coach during Jacksonville's time in the College Basketball Invitational presented by Purple. Fly will be however blazing a new trail at FSU where he is joining the first men's basketball staff since 2001 to not be coached by Hamilton.
"We thank coach Fly for all he has done for our basketball program and all the hard work he has poured into our student-athletes," athletic director
Alex Ricker-Gilbert said. "Having a former head coach on staff was invaluable these past two years in the development of our team as a whole. We cannot thank coach Fly enough for what he has done as a Dolphin and we wish him the best moving forward."
Jacksonville will begin play in the CBI Quarterfinals on Monday, March 24 against the winner of Manhattan and Incarnate Word.
