Former Dolphin McCray Signs Exhibit 10 Contract With Lakers

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Former Jacksonville Dolphin men's basketball standout Robert McCray V signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday becoming the latest Dolphin to earn a chance to play in the NBA.

McCray starred in Duval County from 2023-25, playing two seasons in Swisher Gymnasium before getting a chance to play for one of the NBA's premier franchises. An Exhibit 10 contract is a single-year, non-guaranteed deal that allows a player to earn a two-way roster spot through training camp.

While at Jacksonville, McCray was named the ASUN Preseason Player of the Year in 2024 and eclipsed the 1,000-point threshold in a Dolphin uniform. He currently sits 25th all-time in program history in scoring.

The list of accolades doesn't stop there, as McCray was also named to the All-ASUN First Team in '24-25, the ASUN Fan Vote Preseason Player of the Year in '24, ASUN Preseason All-First Team in '24,  and to the ASUN All-Tournament Team in '25. Following the '23-'24 season, McCray was honored with an All ASUN Third-Team distinction.

The Columbia, S.C. product burst onto the ASUN scene during his sophomore year where he scored 589 points, the most in almost a decade for a 'Phin. During Jacksonville's run to the ASUN Tournament title game in '24, McCray scored 91 points across three games, a new tournament record that still stands today.

Jacksonville has had 10 players who have appeared in the modern NBA, with McCray earning his chance to become the 11th. NBA training camp begins in late September while NBA Summer League kicks off for the Lakers July 3-6 in the California Summer League before the league-wide summer season runs from July 9-19.
