Arias, McCray Earn Postseason ASUN Awards

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A pair of Dolphins have been awarded ASUN Postseason honors the league announced Tuesday morning.

Freshman guard Chris Arias and junior guard Robert McCray V both received recognitions as voted on by league coaches. Previously, graduate guard Jakari Spence was named to the Academic All-ASUN list.

Arias, a Jacksonville native, was voted to the All-Freshman team during his first season as a 'Phin. McCray, in his second full season in a Dolphin uniform, was named to the All-ASUN First Team.

Arias joined four other players on the Freshman All-ASUN list and has clearly planted himself among the league's best players this season.

The Providence High School product has started four games and played in all 31 contests this season. He has averaged 6.1 points per game and 2.3 boards per game while shooting 40.2% from the field this season. From the 3-point line, Arias is knocking down shots at a 41.7% clip.

In conference play, Arias has taken things up a notch by averaging 7.0 points per game on 42.9% shooting and a 49.2% mark from deep.

Arias burst onto the scene early in the year by dropping 19 points against South Carolina State. During a four-game stretch to begin February, Arias had four consecutive double-digit scoring games capped off by a 17-point performance against North Alabama.

McCray on the other hand is making his second appearance on a Postseason All-ASUN list, after being named Third-Team last year.
This year, McCray was voted among the five best players in the conference by league coaches and it's clear to see why.

McCray leads the #4 seeded Dolphins in minutes (894), field goals made (183), field goals attempted (419), points (496), points per game (16.5) and assists (135). He is second on team in 3-pointers made, second in steals and third in total rebounds.

Before the season, McCray was named ASUN Preseason Player of the Year and has lived up to that title in recent weeks. In his last three games, McCray has recorded two double doubles including one in Monday's Quarterfinal playoff win over Eastern Kentucky.

Just a week prior, McCray recorded his first career double-double against the exact same Eastern Kentucky team to help clinch Jacksonville's fourth seed and home playoff game.

This year, McCray has 24 double-digit scoring games and has scored 20 or more points 10 times including scoring a season-high 26 points against Furman, UNF and EKU.

In conference play, McCray has scored in double-digits in all but two games including his first game back from a one-game injury.

Many Jacksonville records have been broken and set by McCray during his junior year campaign. Along with Jakari Spence, McCray and his point guard became the first JU teammates to each dish 100 or more assists in a season since 2006-2007.

For his career, McCray has scored over 1,000 points between his stops at Wake Forest and JU. In a Dolphin uniform, McCray has scored 1,085 of his 1,111 career points.

By scoring like he has, McCray has catapulted himself up to 27th all-time in career points at Jacksonville.

McCray, Arias and Spence get another opportunity to suit up alongside one another when the Dolphins travel to Florence, Alabama for a date with #2 seed North Alabama. The series between the two schools is split 1-1 this year, with UNA winning the latest contest at UNA on Feb 15.

Jacksonville and UNA will square off Thursday, March 6 at 7 p.m. EST on ESPN+ for the ASUN Semifinals. The winner will face either #1 Lipscomb or #6 Queens in the ASUN Championship.
