Steidl's slam, Walsh's strong start fuel JU’s win over UWG

CARROLLTON, Ga. – Senior Josh Steidl launched a grand slam as part of a four-RBI day to help propel the Jacksonville Dolphins past the West Georgia Wolves, 9–3, on Saturday.

Junior Alex Walsh (1–1) earned the win for Jacksonville (18–16, 8–6), tossing 5.1 innings and allowing just one run on two hits while striking out three.

Senior Chris Lotito followed with 2.1 strong innings, giving up one run on two hits and recording three strikeouts.

Steidl went 1-for-3 with a grand slam, three walks, and four RBIs. Aidan Masters added a solid performance, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs, while Sammy Mummau chipped in with a hit, a walk, and two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dolphins got on the board early with a six-run second inning to seize control of the game. Mummau opened the scoring with an RBI single, followed by Steidl's two-out grand slam to left.

Masters capped off the inning with a run-scoring base hit, stretching the lead to 6-0. Walsh kept the Wolves off the board through five strong innings, and Jacksonville added to its lead in the sixth. The 'Phins tacked on three more runs, highlighted by a two-run single from Masters and a bases-loaded walk from Mummau, pushing the score to 9-0. West Georgia plated three runs late, but Jacksonville cruised to a 9-3 win on the road.

GAME NOTES

  • Sophomore Jonah Shields stole two bases, bringing his season total to 17, ranking second in the ASUN behind teammate Jaden Bastian (20).
  • The Dolphins went 2-for-4 with the bases loaded.
