JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Dolphins came out on top over Florida Gulf Coast Sunday, 4-2, which clinched the weekend series.
Coupled with Saturday night's 4-1 victory, Jacksonville (20-19, 7-8) won its first pair of back-to-back games over the Eagles since 2011.
Sunday's game started off fast for both teams, as after two full innings, the game was tied 2-2.
Averi Harcus started the day off for JU with an RBI-double in the bottom of the first. Madison Bratek had an RBI-single in the second to tie the game.
The score remained at 2-2 until the bottom of the fifth when big-hitting Alison Carter stepped up to the plate and delivered a two-run blast to left center. Carter, who was intentionally walked during her first at bat to load the bases, leads the team with four jacks this season.
All seven of JU's hits came from its second through fifth batters. Bratek went 2-3, Gabby Baylog went 2-3, Harcus went a perfect 2-2 and Carter went 1-2. Carter and Harcus also drew two of the team's three walks.
On the day, just one JU batter recorded a strikeout. Harcus had the team's lone double, Carter the team's lone homer and Kiersten Stevens stole the team's only bag.
In the circle, Reese Wells started off the game and went 1 1/3 innings. Jacy Harrelson finished off the game's final 5 2/3 innings. Harrelson allowed just two hits during her time dealing from 43 feet away.
Heading into next weekend's series against UNF, the Dolphins have won five of their last six conference games. The lone loss, against FGCU, was by a single run.
The Dolphins have scored four or more runs in four straight games and have allowed three or fewer runs in four of their last five.
