JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University right-hander Richard Long has been named to the 2025 Pitcher of the Year Watch List, the College Baseball Foundation announced Friday afternoon. The honor, sponsored by the College Baseball Hall of Fame, recognizes the top pitchers in NCAA Division I baseball each season.
Long is one of just 54 pitchers nationwide to earn a spot on the prestigious list and continues to cement his place among the nation's elite arms. His dominant performance this season has helped lead the Dolphins' pitching staff.
"Richie's been a workhorse for us, and he continues to set the tone every time he takes the mound," said Head Coach Chris Hayes. "This recognition is well-earned, and we're thrilled to see his name among the top pitchers in the country."
A statistical standout across the board, Long has emerged as one of the most dominant pitchers in the conference this season. He leads all pitchers with 64.0 innings pitched, ranks second in both earned run average (2.39) and opponent batting average (.185), and is tied for first in wins with six. Additionally, Long ranks among the conference's top 10 in several key categories, including earned runs allowed (17), home runs allowed (2), strikeouts (45), and hits allowed (43).
In his most recent outing, Long delivered another masterful performance in Jacksonville's 8-0 shutout victory. The right-hander went eight innings, allowing only three hits and one walk while striking out two batters on just 96 pitches. His command and efficiency on the mound played a critical role in the dominant win, further solidifying his status as one of the top pitchers in the conference and in the country.
