JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Baseball completed a weekend sweep of FGCU as the Dolphins' pitching staff continued to dominate, allowing just a single run in the ninth inning of the series finale and holding the Eagles to only one run all weekend. JU outscored FGCU 18–1 over the three-game set.
Senior Collin Rothermel (6-2) earned the win for Jacksonville (22-16, 12-6). The right-hander tossed five shutout innings, allowing five hits, two walks, and striking out seven. Senior Blake Barquin also delivered a strong performance, pitching three shutout innings while giving up one hit, walking two, and fanning three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jacksonville jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first, putting up three runs. Josh Steidl opened the scoring with a two-run double down the right field line, plating Jaden Bastian and Jonah Shields before being thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple. A few batters later, Aidan Masters added another with a two-out RBI double to left center, scoring Carson Stevens to make it 3–0 Dolphins.
The Eagles were held scoreless through the early innings, and the Dolphins took advantage in the third to extend their lead. Blake DeLamielleure delivered a clutch RBI single, scoring Jonah Shields to make it 4–0. On the mound, Rothermel was in control, striking fire in the second and third innings as he racked up five consecutive strikeouts. He continued to dominate, holding FGCU scoreless in the fourth before Jacksonville added another run in the next inning. Jonah Shields came through with an RBI single, pushing the Dolphins' lead to 5–0.
Jacksonville kept the Eagles off the scoreboard before extending their lead in the eighth inning. With two runners on, senior Blake DeLamielleure delivered a key two-RBI single, bringing home Jonah Shields and Josh Steidl to make it 7–0 in favor of the Dolphins. This marked DeLamielleure's 10th multi-hit game of the season, leading the team, and his 41 RBIs now rank third in the ASUN. FGCU managed to score one run before the game ended, but the Dolphins cruised to a 7–1 victory.
