Dolphins Rally Late, Secures 6-5 Walk-Off Thriller Over Bethune-Cookman

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Baseball earned its sixth straight win in dramatic fashion on Monday night, rallying for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk off Bethune-Cookman, 6-5. Senior Blake DeLamielleure sealed the victory with a clutch two-run double after the Wildcats had taken the lead in the top half of the inning.

Junior Nick Anello (1-1) was credited with the win out of the bullpen for Jacksonville (23-16). Fellow junior Aaron Zenus gave the Dolphins a strong start, tossing five innings and allowing two runs on four hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.

At the plate, the Dolphins were led by DeLamielleure, who went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Masters added a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and an RBI. Hentz also contributed, putting together two hits in four trips while driving in a run.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 2-0, Jacksonville broke through in the fourth to get on the board. Steidl scored the Dolphins' first run on a productive groundout by Masters, whose routine grounder to second cut the deficit to 2-1.

Down 3-1 after the seventh-inning stretch, the 'Phins kept pushing. Howard grounded out to second to score Hentz and trim the lead to 3-2. With two outs, Mummau came through with an RBI single to center, scoring Hentz and tying the game at 3-3.

Bethune-Cookman rallied to take a 5-4 lead in the top of the ninth, but Jacksonville had an answer. With one last chance, the Dolphins showed patience at the plate. Bastian battled through a gritty at-bat to draw a full-count walk, and Steidl was intentionally walked to load the bases. That set the stage for DeLamielleure, who delivered the game-winning blow — a two-run double off the deep center field wall to score Kelly and Bastian, securing a thrilling 6-5 victory. It marked Jacksonville's first walk-off win of the season and its first since April 27, 2024, when Edmonds walked off Queens.

GAME NOTES

  • JU pitchers faced 37 Bethune-Cookman hitters, inducing 12 groundouts and five flyouts while striking out eight.
