Dolphins Stay Hot, Complete Sweep of Wolves

JACKSONVILLE, FL --Jacksonville Baseball took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 6-5 win against the West Georgia Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Blake Barquin (3-3) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Jacksonville (26-16, 15-6). The right-hander went 2.1 innings, giving up three runs, zero earned, on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out two.

Junior Alex Walsh also made an impact on the mound for the Dolphins, starting the ballgame and throwing 4.2 innings, giving up two runs, on four hits, with three walks and six strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dolphins got on the board right away, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Chandler Howard opened the scoring with a two-RBI double, and Conner Spelman followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home Blake DeLamielleure.

West Georgia trimmed the deficit to 3-2 with a two-run homer in the second inning, but Jacksonville answered right back in the third. Blake DeLamielleure made it 4-2 with an RBI double, then stole third to set up Chandler Howard, who delivered his team-leading third RBI of the day with a sacrifice fly to bring DeLamielleure home.

Jacksonville held West Georgia scoreless before extending their lead to 6-2 in the following inning. The Dolphins added a run on an RBI single by sophomore Jonah Shields.

West Georgia added three runs to make it a tight game, but JU held strong. With the bases loaded in the top of the eighth, Kyle Powers entered in a clutch situation and needed just one pitch to force a popup and end the threat. Anthony Cordero then took the mound in the ninth, earning his third save of the season and securing the Dolphins' 6-5 victory.
