CHARLOTTE, N.C. --Jacksonville Baseball got a strong performance from sophomore Jonah Shields, who tallied three hits, including a double and two RBI, in a narrow 5–4 loss to Queens (NC) on Friday night.
Senior right-hander Chris Lotito (3–1) was tagged with the loss for the Dolphins (26–17, 15–7). He tossed two innings in relief, allowing one run on two hits while striking out four and issuing no walks.
Shields led the Dolphins offensively, while sophomore Cade Hentz turned in a solid day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a double. Senior Aidan Masters added two hits in four at-bats and drove in a run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jacksonville opened the scoring in the first inning, with Shields crossing the plate to give the Dolphins an early 1–0 advantage. After Queens tied it at 1–1, the Dolphins responded in the fourth when Masters delivered an RBI single to make it 2–1.
Queens briefly grabbed a 3–2 lead in the fifth, but Jacksonville answered quickly. Shields drove in Hentz and sophomore Jaden Bastian with a two-run single, putting the Dolphins back on top, 4–3.
Queens answered back with runs in the fifth and seventh innings, and the Dolphins couldn't find the equalizer down the stretch.
