Dolphins Seek Defense Of MAAC Title

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. --- The Jacksonville women's rowing team returns to Cooper River Park Sunday as it looks to defend its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title once again. The Dolphins have rowed nine times this spring and will look to clinch their fourth-straight MAAC crown this weekend.

The championship will be decided by a points system combined from different crews. The first Varsity 4+ can earn up to 10 points, the second Varsity 8+ up to 20 points and the first Varsity 8+ up to 30 points. Ties will be broken based on the first Varsity 8+ finish.

The action starts at 10 a.m. with the opening heat for the Varsity 4+, followed by the second Varsity 8+ heats starting at 10:20 a.m. The heat stage of Sunday's action concludes with the Varsity 8+ at 10:40 a.m. to close the morning.

The final stage of the championships begin with the second Varsity 4+ Grand Final at 1 p.m. The Varsity 4+ final will follow at 1:20 p.m. The championships will conclude with the Varsity 8+ finals, with the second varsity starting at 1:30 p.m., and the Grand Final for the Varsity 8+ finishing the weekend at 2 p.m.

Head Coach Mike Lane
"This spring has been one of our more challenging years. That being said, I am so proud of how our team has done dealing with the challenges (and) keeping rowing and going fast the main thing!

This is my 19th year as a D1 head coach and could not be prouder of this year's squad.  We knew from the beginning every race was going to be close and it has been. We have learned from the wins, and learned from the loses and have all the confidence in the world that these women will go out and give 100% and use the experience they have to prevail!

We race all year for this one day!  It is the Christmas of rowing for us, and I for sure am looking forward to unwrapping some gifts!"
