Chasing History: Dolphins Seek Ninth MAAC Crown

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. ---  The Jacksonville Dolphins are looking to re-set the standard. A year's worth of hard work has poured into this moment: a chance to reclaim the Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference title for the first time since 2024 and ninth in program history.

The Dolphins will compete in the first and second Varsity Eight and the first Varsity Four for a chance to book a ticket to the NCAA Championships at the end of the month. Each of these three events will be awarded points for finish, with the final team trophy recipient earning a place in the national championships.

Under head coach Mike Lane, the Dolphins have raised eight MAAC crowns. Jacksonville narrowly missed out on championship number nine last year, finishing in a tie in the points trophy but losing out on a tiebreaker in the first Varsity Eight.

This year, JU is motivated to return to their championship standard.

"Last year's loss really took a toll and fired this group up more than I have ever seen in my 20 years of being a D1 Head Coach," Lane said. "They have come out this year with one goal - reset the standard!"

The championship will be broadcast on ESPN+ Sunday. The race will take place on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

The event will be straight finals for each event. In addition to the three championship crews, the Dolphins will have a pair of fours compete for the second Varsity Four crown. They'll open the day at 9:50 AM.

From then, the first Varsity Four will open the championship segment at 10:00 AM. The second Varsity Eight goes at 10:10 AM. The first Varsity Eight closes out the full conference championship at 10:20 AM.

The post-tournament awards will commence around 11:30 AM.
