Late Push Not Enough in 3–2 Loss to Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --Junior Alex Walsh delivered on Sunday, fanning eight Queens hitters over 6.2 innings of work, but it was not enough as the Jacksonville fell to the Royals 3-2.

In addition to his eight strikeouts, Walsh tossed 6.2 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits and walking one for Jacksonville (27-18, 16-8).

At the plate, the Dolphins were led by senior Blake DeLamielleure, who went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Fellow senior Aidan Masters added a key double and drove in both JU runs, finishing 1-for-4. Senior Josh Steidl also chipped in, collecting three hits in four at-bats.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dolphins were held off the scoreboard through the first eight innings, unable to convert on early opportunities at the plate. Trailing 3–0 in the ninth, JU finally broke through as Masters roped a clutch two-run double to spark a late rally. The tying run advanced to third, but the comeback came up just short, with Queens hanging on for a 3–2 win.

GAME NOTES

  • The Dolphins out-hit the Royals at an 8-7 clip.
  • Jacksonville pitchers limited Queens to just 1-for-8 (.125) with runners in scoring position.
  • JU pitchers faced 33 Queens hitters in the game, allowing seven ground balls and seven fly balls while striking out nine.
