JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- Jacksonville senior libero
Kristina Nika won ASUN Defensive Player of the Week for the first weekend of conference play. This is the first weekly ASUN honor of her JU career and she's the second Dolphin to win Defensive Player of the Week honors this season.
Nika was the most productive libero in the ASUN this weekend, leading the league with 5.29 digs per set --- nearly a full dig more per set than anyone else in the league.
She totaled 20 digs in JU's four-set win over Queens. That was her third 20-plus dig outing of the season and her third in four matches. She followed that up with 17 digs in a straight-sets win over West Georgia.
For the season, Nika ranks fifth in the league with 3.96 digs per set. She's approaching 1,000 digs for her career, currently sitting on 959 across her four years with the Dolphins.
Jacksonville returns to Swisher Gymnasium this week for the first River City Rumble of the season against North Florida. First serve is slated for Thursday at 7 p.m. and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
