JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- Central Arkansas led by as many as 10 in the second half and six with under five minutes to play in the game. But Jacksonville had
Priscilla Williams.
Down five, she got to the line for a pair. Down six with under a minute, she hit a jumper. With seven seconds left, trailing by four points, she put up a desperation three. Cash. In all, Williams rewrote the JU record book to the tune of 44 points and a historic come-from-behind win.
"Incredible," head coach
Special Jennings said. "She's resilient, she's a unicorn. She can do a little bit of everything, knock down shots, get to the basket, make free throws. Defensively, she's long. She makes it tough on you to get around her. So, I'm proud of her."
The Jacksonville Dolphins defeated the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears Thursday night, 96-86.
Jacksonville struck first, setting the tone with its defense. Freshman
Tatum Brown sprinted back in transition and snuck behind an unknowing shooter for a takeaway block. That early tenacity allowed the Dolphins to take an early 14-7 lead.
But the game would be a battle throughout, as the Sugar Bears clawed back in the quarter to make the score 18-16 Dolphins after one.
From the second quarter on, it was an offensive exhibition.
Central Arkansas buried a pair of jumpers, and then Brown took over from the mid-range with back-to-back pull-up twos. The upperclassmen took control in the final five minutes of the half. Williams relentlessly drove to the cup, drawing several fouls and scoring four from the line.
Senior
Makiya Miller found her groove, scoring a pair of pull-up jumpers. It was the Sugar Bears that pulled in front, though, scoring two baskets late to take a 40-36 lead into the break. The third quarter was more offensive fireworks, with the teams trading buckets up and down the court.
The third quarter saw 42 combined points, with many of them coming from Williams. She splashed back-to-back triples early, then her driving took over the game. Williams made five free throws and a layup to give her 13 points in the third quarter alone. Despite her dominance, though, UCA still led by four with a quarter to play.
The final quarter turned an exciting back-and-forth game into an instant classic. With the Sugar Bears leading late, Williams always had an answer, leading to her clutch triple with under 10 seconds to play.
Central Arkansas missed both free throws on the other end, opening up a window for the Dolphins. Brown grabbed the rebound, one of a career-high 11 boards on the night, and raced down the court.
As she drove to the basket, she drew a foul. After a quick replay review, she stepped up to the line and sent the game into overtime.
The Dolphins refused to let the comeback end there. Junior
Bailey Burns scored three-straight layups to put Jacksonville up 84-82. Williams added six more for good measure while Burns and sophomore
Mychal White cleaned up from the free throw line to ice the victory.

Coach's Comments
Opening Statement
"it was a great game. They're well coached. Tony [Kemper] does a phenomenal job. He's been in the top half of this league since he's been in it. I thought it was great for our team to figure out how to win. We've had a lot of things happen this season, moving parts and great teams figure out how to get it done."
On What Changed In The Second Half
"We did enough to bring us back. And then defensively, we guarded the three. That was the tale of the first half. We did not do a great job of guarding the three, and so once we cleaned that up, we were able to score and keep them from scoring."
On Bench Scoring
"Our bench always does a pretty good job. I think [Mychal] White is one of the best scorers in the conference, off the bench. I look forward to when they sub in. We don't really drop off much."
