Dolphins Fall At Home To North Alabama

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- Jacksonville fell for just the second time at home this season, losing to the North Alabama Lions 83-79 Saturday afternoon at Swisher Gymnasium.

The Dolphins (11-6, 3-3 ASUN) were led by graduate student guard Priscilla Williams, who had a record-setting performance for the second-consecutive game.

After breaking the school's single-game scoring record against Central Arkansas, she recorded the first 20-point, 20-rebound game in school history. Williams finished with 25 points and 20 rebounds, tying the second-most boards in a game in program history.

Freshman guard Tatum Brown came out firing in the first, splashing triples on JU's first two possessions of the game. The Dolphins couldn't miss in the early going, with Williams hitting a triple of her own.

Brown buried a pull-up jumper from the free throw line to force a North Alabama timeout, JU leading 13-2. The Dolphins led by as many as 15 in the first, but the Lions found offense  later in the quarter, cutting the Jacksonville lead to 22-19 at the quarter break.

The second quarter was a back and forth much of the way, with freshman Aniah Smith scoring to put Jacksonville up 29-27 midway through the period. North Alabama would pull away for the first time, though, scoring 11 points in the final five minutes of the half to take a 40-35 lead at the half.

The Lions led by as many as seven early in the third, before the Dolphins pushed momentum back their way. Williams put the Dolphins back in front with a triple, but North Alabama responded to re-take the lead soon after.

Jacksonville went back in front in the late stages of the game, showing its grit in the closing moments. Williams cut the deficit to one with 3:18 to play, and Brown tied the game from the line a minute later.

After a hard drive to the basket, sophomore guard Bailey Burns put JU in front 74-73 with a free throw. The Lions responded, though, scoring a 3-pointer on the next possession. Jacksonville would get close playing the foul game late, but North Alabama closed out the game.

Game Notes
  • In her last two games, Williams has totaled: 69 points, 28 rebounds, seven blocks, four steals and four assists.
  • Brown finished with 15 points, her ASUN season high and second-consecutive game in double figures.
  • The Dolphins had four players in double-figures: Williams, Brown, Burns and senior Makiya Miller.
