CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- After allowing just two points in the second quarter, the Jacksonville Dolphins were on a fast track to a historic victory over the Queens Royals. That came to pass as JU defeated Queens 91-40, the largest margin of victory (51) over an ASUN team in program history.
The Dolphins (10-4, 2-1 ASUN) had a complete team performance. Five different players scored in double figures for the first time this season. Sophomore
Mychal White and
Comari Mitchell led the way with 18 and 16 respectively.
"We're good enough," head coach
Special Jennings said. "I didn't recruit to rely on one or two people. I recruited us to have depth to play almost like hockey subs, in a sense. We have enough, and even when things happen, we shuffle the cards, next woman up and continue to just play together."
Jacksonville controlled the game from the opening tip. The Dolphins trailed for a mere eight seconds in the early stages of the first quarter, taking a 3-2 lead on a layup from senior
Makiya Miller that they would hold the rest of the night.
From that point on, Jacksonville outscored Queens 19-10. In the second quarter, JU switched into overdrive.
The Dolphins played their best defensive period of the season, holding the Royals to just two points for the quarter. Jacksonville opened the quarter scoring 15 unanswered points, with five different players on the score sheet.Â
After Queens' lone bucket of the quarter, the Dolphins scored three more buckets before the break. Miller ended things in style, scoring a layup to put JU up 43-14 with eight ticks of the clock left in the first half.Â
Not wanting to rest on their laurels, the Dolphins opened the third quarter on an 11-2 run. Freshman
Tatum Brown led the second-half charge, scoring an early transition layup and capitalizing on an and-one later in the third.
White took over with six points in the third. Junior
Carmaya Bowman got involved in the scoring, as well, splashing her first 3-pointer of the season. In all, the Dolphins took a 75-26 lead into the third. Jacksonville outscored the Royals by 39 points in just the second and third quarters.
White continued to lead the way in the fourth, adding seven points in the final period of play. Freshmen
Aniah Smith and
Kimora Hester both found the score sheet in the fourth quarter, adding a pair of baskets in the fourth.

Coach's Comments
"It's amazing anytime almost every play on the roster can score," Jennings said. "We shared the ball, got out and ran, limited their chances: we just did all the things we practiced. Our young ladies have fun, and they have a lot to play for with
Kali Howard going down last week. I'm happy we were able to put a game together and play for her."
