Dolphins Down Bellarmine For ASUN Win

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The Jacksonville Dolphins are back to winning ways. JU defeated the Bellarmine Knights in four sets (18-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-15) to secure its first win of the Atlantic Sun Conference season.

The Dolphins were led by a duo of upperclassmen. Graduate student Abbie Tuyo and senior Claire Mrukowki finished with 10 kills each, with Tuyo adding 10 digs and Mrukowski hitting a crips .304 on the day.

Set One
Bellarmine stormed out of the gates to take command in the first set. The Knights were the first team to 15, leading by three at the technical timeout, and they reached 20 first, taking a 20-14 advantage over the 'Phins.

Jacksonville fought to stay in the set, tallying a handful of late points including one of three kills in the first from freshman Jaylyn Tuiasosopo.
 
Despite the late effort, the hosts cruised to a six-point win in the first set.

Set Two
Dropping the first set was the wake-up call Jacksonville needed. With the set tied at seven early, the Dolphins scored four of hte next five points including a long rally that resulted in a Tuyo kill, one of six for her in the second.
 
The Knights wouldn't fade away, tying the set and even retaking the lead in the middle stage of the game. Sophomore Addison Krieger fired home a kill to tie the set at 21 and put the Dolphins back on serve.

With junior Emersen Strain controlling the service line, JU scored the final four points of the set. Two Mrukowski kills and a Bellarmine error helped Jacksonville square the match at one set apiece.

Set Three
The Dolphins were humming on offenes in the third, hitting .517 as a team while five different hitters scored multiple kills. Mrukowski was sharp, scoring on four of her five attempts, but nobody topped the efficiency of sophomore Kathryn Adler. The second-year hitter burried all three of her attempts in the third.

It was a contested battle, with Bellarmine leading as late as 16-15. Jacksonville showed guile late in the set, scoring 11 of the final 14 points in the game. 

Set Four
The Dolphins were at their most dominant when it came time to close out the match. Jacksonville controlled the tempo of the fourth set, as Adler powered the 'Phins to a 16-6 lead midway through the set.
 
The errors started to pile up for the Knights in the fourth, as they finisehd with 11 in just the fourth set. With the 'Phins in control, Jacksonville went back to its cleanest hitter on the night, Mrukowski to help see things out as she put JU on match point.
 
A block from Tuiasosopo and junior Haley Yount would seal the deal for the most dominant set win of the night and JU's first win in conference play this year.

Match Notes
  • JU's 70 digs are its most in a match this season and most in a four-set match since 2024.
  • Tuyo recorded her second double-double of the season (10 kills, 11 digs) and the eighth of her career.
  • Mrukowski has hit over .300 in each of her last four matches and in all but four of her appearances this season. This also her third 10+ kill night in her last four matches.
  • Tuiasosopo finished as the team's top point scorer. In addition to her nine kills, she also added four service aces and three block assists. She also led the team with 13 digs.
  • The Dolphins finished with eight service aces. They've recorded at least that many in seven matches this season.
