Jacksonville Drops Tight Match Against FGCU

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In first of three home games to finish out the 2026 regular season, Jacksonville battled FGCU to a 1-0 loss Thursday evening.

The result moved JU to a 5-6-4 record overall and a 3-3-2 record in conference play. Thursday's match was the first match all season Jacksonville had conceded at home boasting a 3-1-3 record inside Southern Oak Stadium.

Closely contested was the only way to describe the fight in Duval County between two teams with no love lost for one another. FGCU took the season's earlier match in Ft. Myers, 3-2, with Jacksonville looking to take down the top-seeded Eagles.

At half, the score was 0-0 with both sides hardly finding chances around the net. FGCU had taken just three shots, with JU held shotless in then opening frame. Jacksonville managed eight shots over the game's final 45, compared to FGCU's three once more. The Dolphins had the overall advantage in shots on goal 5-3 but couldn't find paydirt.

The visiting Eagles scored in the 79th minute to take the game for good.

Jacksonville saw two goalies play under the lights. Taylor Gardner made the start, starting her fifth straight ASUN match. She played a touch over six minutes before an injury subbed her off for Sofia Mosquera. Mosquera went the distance, making two saves over almost 84 minutes of playing time. Mosquera's appearance was her first since Oct. 1 in a draw against Queens.

Offensively, Julia Delprat led the charge with two shots on goal in 61 minutes as a substitute. Saki Sanno also added two shots on target in a full 90 minutes played.

The Dolphins are well alive in the hunt for an ASUN Tournament spot, and will await results from around the league for a potential clinching scenario. In the meantime, the team will prepare for a Sunday afternoon tilt against Stetson.

The Hatters come to town Sunday, Oct. 25th at 1 p.m. for Pink out the Pitch day. Sunday's game is the second to last regular season match for JU as the team will end its regular season campaign against UNF in the River City Rumble on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 4 p.m.
