CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Jacksonville fell 4-1 in game two of the series at Queens on Saturday, setting up a rubber match on Sunday afternoon.
The Dolphins struck first in the opening inning, manufacturing a run as
Cade Walter came around to score on a sacrifice fly from
Roger Vergara. Jacksonville put pressure on early with traffic on the bases, but couldn't extend the lead beyond 1-0.
Queens responded in the bottom half with a three-run home run that flipped the momentum and gave the Royals a lead they would not lose.
Jacksonville scattered five hits on the night, with
Archer Ogbourne,
Derek Bermudez,
Sam Grunberg,
Griffin Pomper and
Sammy Mummau each recording one. The Dolphins threatened late, putting two on in the eighth and bringing the tying run to the plate, but were unable to break through.
On the mound,
Ben Baker-Livingston provided a strong response out of the bullpen, tossing 4.0 scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out two to keep Jacksonville within striking distance.
Kyle Powers and
Scout Updike also combined for solid relief work down the stretch.
Queens added an insurance run in the seventh to make it 4-1.
Jacksonville will look to secure the series in the rubber match on Sunday.
