JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville fell behind early and never recovered, dropping an 11-4 decision to North Florida on Saturday night at John Sessions Stadium.
The Ospreys struck immediately, plating five runs on five hits in the first inning to seize control. North Florida followed with two more runs in the second—without recording a hit—taking advantage of walks and a wild pitch to extend the lead to 7-0.
UNF continued to add on in the third and fourth innings, pushing the advantage to 11-1 and putting Jacksonville in an early hole it could not climb out of.
Jacksonville got on the board in the second inning on an RBI sacrifice fly from
Abdriel Delgado, scoring
Logan Baratta. Baratta later provided another highlight in the fourth, launching a solo home run to right field.
The Dolphins showed life in the seventh, capitalizing on an error before
Sammy Mummau delivered a two-run double to left field, trimming the deficit to 11-4. Jacksonville, however, could not generate further momentum down the stretch.
Despite working 10 walks on the night, Jacksonville managed just four hits and left multiple opportunities on the table, unable to come through with timely hits.
On the mound, the Dolphins used multiple arms after the early deficit, with
Gavin Dicks providing a bright spot out of the bullpen, tossing three scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
North Florida was led offensively by Mathew Farner (4-for-6) and Carter White, who drove in three runs as part of the Ospreys' five-run first inning.
Jacksonville will look to bounce back in the series finale, scheduled for 1:00 pm est.
