High Octane Offense Boosts Jacksonville Over West Georgia

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville softball team took a pair of games over West Georgia Saturday, defeating the visiting Wolves 11-2 in six innings and 11-8 in a full seven.

The 22 total runs were the most runs scored by the 'Phins in back-to-back games and its highest two-game output in conference play thus far. Saturday's victories moved Jacksonville to 20-14 overall and 5-3 in conference, with the team winning its last three ASUN outings.

Homers Lift Dolphins In Game One
Deep balls were the story of the first doubleheader game, as Jacksonville knocked four total homers out of the Debbie And Fred Pruitt Softball Complex. Four home runs in one game set a new season high for Jacksonville.

The Dolphins got a pair of homers from Lindsey Chadwick, who was coming off a two home run game in her previous outing at North Florida. Chadwick hit jacks in the third and the sixth to move her to seven homers on the year and second on the team.

Sarah Beth Brake hit the team's first homer, her team-best 10th to that point, in the third to start the deep ball show. Next was Chadwick's first homer, a two-run shot to right field. Freshman Vic Brunette then got in on the party with her first jack of her career before Chadwick capped things off with a solo blast in the sixth to end the game in mercy rule fashion.

In total, Jacksonville tallied nine hits. Freshman Emma Mansfield and Tatum McCool each added doubles for their lone hits of the day. Brunette led the team with five RBIs, a career high, followed by Chadwick's four. The Dolphins had just one strikeout all game.

Jacy Harrelson (11-6) did her damage from the circle, limiting UWG to just two hits. She fanned three and let up just one earned run. After going down 2-0, Jacksonville rattled off 11 unanswered runs behind the swift arm of Harrelson and the big bats of the offense.

Jacksonville Explodes On Offense Again
Behind a six-run first inning and a three-run sixth, the Dolphins took the second of two games over West Georgia. Again, it was the big bats of the 'Phins smacking balls all over the park that saw the home team to victory.

Brake started the scoring with an RBI-single, followed by a Brunette RBI-single and Brake scoring on an error.

Chadwick hit a single and McCool hit an RBI-double to see JU out to a quick 6-0 lead after a frame.

In the second, Mansfield scored Brake behind an RBI-single to put the dolphins up 7-0. UWG answered with a run of its own before another fielding error pushed Kiersten Stevens home, putting JU up 8-1.

Facing another mercy rule loss, UWG got hot in the sixth and scored five to put the game at an 8-7 score. Jacksonville didn't falter, as Brake hit her second jack of the day over the center field fence to give her side a 9-7 advantage.

Brake's homer was her team-best 11th of the year and her fourth homer against UWG in five games. McCool finished things off with yet another double, her third of the day, that scored two. West Georgia managed a run in the top of the seventh but couldn't tie the game.

McCool had just one double prior to Saturday but is now up to four this season which ties her for fourth on the team. As for Brake, she leads the ASUN in homers with five. Chadwick is tied for second in the league in deep balls with four.

Chadwick and Brake's nine total homers are the most by any duo in the league.

Reese Wells went the distance in the circle, garnering her fourth win of the year (4-3). Wells sent six Wolves packing, good for a season high in Ks and tying her career high set last season. She allowed just three earned runs.

Jacksonville swiped four bags in the second game, five overall between the two. Thomas stole one bag in the second game, putting her at a team-high nine steals which is tied for the lead across the ASUN landscape.

Things pick up again at the Pruitt Softball Complex Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. as JU looks to complete the sweep over West Georgia which would be the team's first ASUN sweep of the season.
