Harrelson’s Historic Week Earns Ace Pitcher Of The Week Honors

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After a pair of pitching wins during a three-game sweep of the Queens Royals this past weekend, sophomore pitcher Jacy Harrelson has been named the ASUN Pitcher of the Week.

Harrelson's weekend moved the sophomore to 15 wins so far this year -- well over half of Jacksonville's 26 total victories -- helping earn her Pitcher of the Week status, the league office announced Monday.

In her first outing against the Royals, Harrelson went the full seven innings for an 8-2 victory. She struck out 10 batters Saturday afternoon, setting a new career high. The sophomore has four games this season over eight strikeouts and has 95 Ks for this year. She's tallied 126 punch outs in her two-year career on campus.

During her second pitching win, Harrelson fanned three batters over six innigns of work in an 8-0 shutout. She allowed just five hits. Earning her 15th win put Harrelson in rarefied air, as she became just the ninth Dolphin all-time to hit 15 wins and planted herself tied for seventh in the record book for single season victories. Her next win will mover her into a tie for fifth all-time in single-season wins.

Across the league landscape, Harrelson has the third lowest ERA since ASUN play began with a 2.40 mark. She is holding opponents to a league-low .184 batting average since the start of the conference season while also pitching the second most innings (49.2).

Her 40 strikeouts are just one shy of the league lead while her six ASUN wins are most in the conference.

Harrelson has also helped lead Jacksonville to a tie with Stetson for the most wins in conference play at 11. Jacksonville and the Hatters are tied atop the Graphite Division in terms of potential ASUN Championship Tournament seeding.

The Dolphins are back in action Tuesday night against Florida A&M for a non-conference tilt. Tuesday's first pitch is set for 5 p.m.

The next conference series starts Saturday, April 18 against FGCU in Ft. Myers. JU took two games to one over visiting FGCU earlier in the conference season, keeping themselves ahead of the third-place Eagles in the Graphite Division.
