FT. MYERS, Fla. – Jacksonville softball split a pair of games with Florida Gulf Coast Saturday, defeating the Eagles 7-1 in the first of two contests, but falling 2-1 in the second.
The Dolphins moved to 28-16 and 12-5 in conference play following the pair of games with one more tilt against the Eagles set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
In the first game, graduate
Alison Carter clobbered the Eagles to the tune of five RBIs. Carter knocked in a sac-fly, a three-RBI double and a single RBI double to score five with
Sarah Beth Brake and
Lindsey Chadwick tacking on a run each to seal the game.
Carter's pair of doubles moved the right fielder to 36 in her career which put her in a tie for second place all time in the JU record books, just two doubles shy of the all-time record held by Katie Kelly. Her five RBIs also moved Carter to 99 in her career, just one shy of the century mark for the four-year player from Stafford, Va.
Carter wasn't the only Dolphin to knock in a double, as both
Kate Linkletter and
Jaida Thomas secured a two-bagger, part of a nine-hit night by the 'Phins.
In the circle, the Dolphins were led by none other than
Jacy Harrelson, who picked up her 17
th win of the year. Harrelson allowed just five hits over a full game of work. By virtue of her victory, the sophomore pitcher moved to third place all-time in single season wins. Harrelson is just a single win shy of the second place total of 18 single season wins and 10 back of Sarah Sigrest Caffrey's record of 27 in first place.
In game two, Brake scored Thomas on a sac-fly for the team's only run. Brake's hit was one of just four for the 'Phins as no player tallied a multi-hit game. Thomas' lone hit of the second contest was a triple, the fifth of the year for the freshman. She leads the team in triples and is tied for first across the entire ASUN in the stat category.
Reese Wells did the majority of the work in the circle, going 5 1/3 innings and striking out two.
Margaret Jenkins finished the game, striking out one.
Jacksonville looks to take the series, and the season, over FGCU on Sunday, April 19 with first pitch set for 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
