Sam Grunberg Named ASUN Player of the Week After Monster 4-0 Stretch

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sam Grunberg has been named ASUN Player of the Week following a dominant stretch at the plate that helped power Jacksonville to a perfect 4-0 week.

The Dolphins swept West Georgia at John Sessions Stadium and picked up a ranked road win over No. 21 UCF, with Grunberg playing a central role in each victory. He becomes the second 'Phin to earn ASUN Player of the Week honors this season, joining Derek Bermudez.

Grunberg put together one of the top offensive weeks in the entire country, going 11-for-20 (.550) with seven RBIs, eight runs scored, two doubles, and a home run. Beyond the stand-out numbers, he delivered in nearly every key moment throughout the week.

His impact was felt immediately in Tuesday's road win over UCF. The senior went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, jumpstarting a fourth-inning rally with a leadoff double before later scoring to cut the deficit to one. In the eighth, with Jacksonville trailing, he launched a 395-foot solo home run to left field to tie the game at 3-3. Two innings later, Grunberg came through again with a go-ahead RBI single, putting Jacksonville in front during extra innings of the eventual upset.

He carried that momentum into the weekend series against West Georgia, recording three hits in each of the first two games.

On Friday, Grunberg went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. In the seventh inning, he delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit to one before coming around to score the tying run as the Dolphins rallied and never looked back.

Saturday saw another standout performance, as Grunberg finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored. After West Georgia jumped out to an early lead, he responded in the first inning with an RBI single. Later, in a pivotal seventh inning, he laced a game-tying double down the left field line and eventually scored the go-ahead run. He added two more RBIs in the eighth to help Jacksonville pull away.

Grunberg capped off the weekend with two more hits and two runs scored in Sunday's series finale, continuing his torrid stretch at the plate.

Through the four-game stretch, Grunberg raised his average from .238 to .289, a reflection of just how impactful his week at the plate truly was.
