JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- Jacksonville graduate student goalie
Ryan Della Rocco added another notch to the illustrious resume of his final season in Jacksonville. He was named to the US Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's national team of the week for his performance this past week. Della Rocco is the first Dolphin to earn a spot on the national team of the week this season.
The honor comes after a historic day between the pipes for Della Rocco. He helped the Dolphins defense allow the fewest goals in a game in program history, giving up just one tally in a 14-1 win over the Queens Royals. Della Rocco made 10 saves on the day, finishing with an elite 90.9% save rate for the day.
In addition to his shot stopping, Della Rocco was active in the entire defensive operation. He set new season highs for ground balls (five) and caused turnovers (three). His three caused turnovers are not only a season best, but a new career-high for CTs in a game.
This is Della Rocco's second weekly award this season. He was named the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Week in the second week of the season. He was also named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List after an electric start to the season.
For the season, Della Rocco's been one of the best net-minders in the country. He's averaging 9.3 saves per game at a 55.4% rate. He's allowed just 7.97 goals per game, the fourth-best mark in the country.
The Dolphins will host the Utah Utes in the final regular season game this season at Rock Stadium. Opening faceoff is scheduled for noon this Saturday.
