JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On yet another rainy night of women's soccer, the Jacksonville Dolphins and visiting Georgia Southern Eagles fought to a contested 0-0 draw Thursday.
Jacksonville (1-0-1) has yet to concede a goal in two complete contests, playing both games under the lights of Southern Oak Stadium. Transfer keeper
Taylor Gardner was solid between the pipes once again, making four saves over a full 90 minutes of action.
Offensively, both teams peppered the other's goalies. Georgia Southern lobbed 16 shots with four on net. For the 'Phins, Jacksonville launched 17 shots with eight on target.
Freshman
Ula Omerzu once again led the game in both shots (four) and shots on goal (three). Through her first two college games, the Slovenian has seven shots, five shots on target and two goals.
Madelyn Radtke took three shots herself, with four other Dolphins taking two shots.
Frida Johansson,
Lilian Carhart,
Paula Herranz and
Olivia Peal all had shots on target, but none found nylon in regulation.
Off the bench, senior
Payton Lauer saw her first action of the season, playing six minutes in the second half.
Transfer midfielder
Saki Sanno played the full 90 for the first time as a 'Phin, taking two shots. She led all JU field newcomers in minutes played and shots.
Through two games, Jacksonville has been a force around the net. The program has combined for 26 total shots and 12 shots on goal, resulting in two goals. The team's prowess in launching shots dates back even to last season, when the team had just two games under double-digit shots.
Defensively, Jacksonville has also been a stalwart. The Dolphins have allowed just six shots on goal total.
Clean play has also been key for the Duval County Dolphins, winning the foul battle against the Eagles. Jacksonville committed just five fouls to eight for Georgia Southern.
Thursday's home tilt is the last home game until September for Jacksonville, as the Dolphins next hit the road down to Gainesville to play the Florida Gators.
JU and UF kickoff on Thursday, Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. in the Swamp. The game will be streamed on SEC Network+.
