JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Dolphins are still undefeated inside Southern Oak Stadium following a 2-1 victory over Bellarmine on Sunday.
Sunday's result moved the Dolphins to an even 3-3-3 across the season and a 1-0-1 record after the first week of conference play. Jacksonville also controls a 12-3 home scoring advantage.
Regarding scoring, Jacksonville has come alive in the scoring department as of late. Across the team's first six games, JU had just a pair of goals, both of which were scored in the team's opening win over Miami. It took Jacksonville until its 6-0 win over Warner to get back on the board. Since then, Jacksonville has scored twice in back-to-back matchups for the first time all season.
Ragna Magnúsdóttir got Jacksonville on the board first behind her first goal as a 'Phin. Off a free kick from
Lina Ballmann, the ball bounced just high enough to find the outstretched leg of Magnusdottir to be flicked up and over the Bellarmine keeper's arms. On the Magnusdottir goal, Ballman notched the assist which was her second of the season and second in as many games.
The game was knotted at one apiece before
Sofía Aguayo launched a ball towards the Bellarmine net in the second half. Jacksonville finished the game with 20 total shots and Aguayo's seemingly was just one of the total barrage.
That was until the Bellarmine keeper watched the ball scoot right under her gloves and into the net for the game's deciding goal and Aguayo's first goal as a Dolphin.
Thus far, all three of the Jacksonville offense's goals in ASUN play have been scored by different Dolphins.
The Knights were peppered all afternoon by Jacksonville. JU won the battle of total shots 20-8, launching 14 shots in the second half to Bellarmine's four. Jacksonville had the slight edge in shots on goal, 7-5.
Following Thursday's 2-2 draw with visiting Lipscomb, which saw junior keeper
Taylor Gardner between the pipes, Jacksonville decided to go with graduate keeper
Sofia Mosquera over the weekend.
The move saw Mosquera surrender just a single goal on a 50-50 ball between her and a Bellarmine defender. Mosquera made four total saves across eight shots and five on target. It was Mosquera's second start of the season and third game played. She set her JU-high in saves while also improving to 2-0-0 across the season, giving JU two viable keeper options to roll with as the season progresses.
Despite Jacksonville's success at home, the team will have to leave that behind before it mounts a five-game road trip extending almost to the end of October. JU next travels to Queens on Oct. 1 before facing ASUN newcomer UWF on Oct. 4.
Games against Stetson (Oct. 8) and FGCU (Oct. 11) follow before the River City Rumble across town on Oct 18. Jacksonville is next at home against FGCU on Thursday, Oct. 22.

"It was a tough game today like every conference game is going to be moving forward," head coach
Ryan Moon said. "Today was great. We did a lot of things we have built upon so far to this point in the season and it was good all around. Really, really happy."
