Purpose/Overview

The Student-Athlete Services Office (SAS) provides a wide range of support services to ensure JU student-athletes acquire the tools to accomplish their academic, personal, and professional goals. Student-Athlete Services integrates its operations within the mission of Jacksonville University and the Athletics Department to promote the overall growth and development of student-athletes. To foster the growth of student-athletes, SAS provides extensive services, which includes:
  • Academic counseling
  • Academic skill development
  • Academic and personality assessments
  • Degree progress checks
  • Individualized success plans
  • Tutor coordination and scheduling
  • On-campus resource coordination and referral
  • Professional and life skills development
 
The Student-Athlete Center for Success (SACS) is located within Botts Hall, on the south side of campus. The facility features a 1000 square foot open study room, 18 newly updated desktop computers, quiet study spaces and offices for academic support staff.  
 

Goals

The goals of the Student-Athlete Services office are to:
  • Support the university mission to help prepare each student for life-long success in learning, achieving, leading, and serving.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA and conference eligibility requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Promote the highest level of integrity while educating students in areas of academic honesty.
  • Educate and inform student-athletes of the resources available on the JU campus, to help maximize their academic and personal success.
  • Foster an inclusive environment that provides an optimal learning space for all student-athletes.
  • Develop values which emphasizes being original, putting others first, exceeding expectations, fostering growth, and being part of the whole.
  • Improve the student-athlete experience by providing special opportunities to be involved in the University, Athletic Department and the greater Jacksonville community.
  • Encourage student-athletes to practice self-care and prioritize mental health.
  • Support positive change and progress, initiated by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
