JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University (12-14), now halfway through an eight-game road trip, heads to UCF (19-6) on Tuesday for the final game before ASUN Conference play begins Friday at Florida Gulf Coast (22-3). Previously…
A couple tough calls helped West Virginia (12-9) escape with a 5-3 victory over the Dolphins Friday despite a career-best 12 strikeouts for Michael Baumann, and the Mountaineers split with the Dolphins Saturday as Casey Kulina struck out 11 and Nathan Koslowski and Sam Armstrong homered.
Scouting the Opponent
Since taking two of three from JU in a weekend series March 17-19, UCF has gone 2-2, and are now 19-6 under first-year Head Coach Greg Lovelady, who has a 143-62 career record. The Knights are hitting .291 on the year with 43 doubles, 11 triples, and 22 home runs, but they remain a bit vulnerable to the strikeout with 27 more than the Dolphins this season. On the mound the Knights are very impressive, boasting a 2.28 combined ERA.
On Deck
The Dolphins wrap their eight-game road trip with a weekend series at #9 Florida Gulf Coast (22-3, 0-0 ASUN) on March 31-April 2 that opens ASUN play. The Dolphins return home for a mid-week against Bethune-Cookman (17-8) on April 5, and then hit the road for another three-game series at NJIT (3-18, 0-0 ASUN) April 7-9.
