DELAND, Fla. – The 2017 ASUN Regular season champions continue their postseason journey Saturday in the final round of the ASUN Conference tournament. #1 Jacksonville University (36-22, 16-5 ASUN) will face third-seeded Florida Gulf Coast University (40-18, 13-8 ASUN) at 1 p.m. in Stetson's Melching Field. The Dolphins will have two chances to defeat the Eagles due to the ASUN's double elimination format. In the regular season FGCU took the first game before JU came back to win the final two, the first two games of the Dolphins' 13-game winning streak in April.
Previously…
Casey Kulina dominated the fifth-seeded Owls of Kennesaw State (25-31, 10-11 ASUN) in JU's 8-4 win on Friday. The senior southpaw from Hummelstown, Pa., shut out the Owls for eight innings before leaving in the ninth after allowing one run. He struck out 10 batters and surrendered just three walks. Jacksonville struck early with five runs in the first two innings, and put three more across in the sixth. The Dolphins are averaging eight runs on 12.5 hits a game in the ASUN tournament.
Scouting the Opponents Â
The Dolphins went down to Fort Myers on March 31 losers of five of their last seven, facing a ninth-ranked Eagles team that was 23-3 on the year. FGCU shut out the Dolphins that first day 4-0, but something clicked for the Dolphins in the next game. JU took down the Eagles 10-5 on April 1 and endured a five-hour fracas and storm delayed 5-2 victory on April 2 to take the season series. The Eagles have gone 16-13 since that series and the Dolphins have gone 22-6.
