AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Jacksonville University women's rowing team competed over the weekend at the Head of the South; one of the most competitive head races in the southeast, and showed well, highlighted by a victory in the Women's Championship 8+ event.

The Championship 8+ featured four Jacksonville boats with the crew taking home the hardware finishing the race in 17:06.4. Dolphin boats in this event followed in sixth, eighth, and ninth with teams from FIT, Clemson, Georgia and Georgia Tech in between.

The Championship 8+ was not the lone victory for the Dolphins, however. Jacksonville brought home three more titles on top of that – the Women's Novice 8+ finished first and second, the Women's Club 8+ and the Women's Championship 4+ where the team finished first, sixth and eighth. In the lone event that Jacksonville competed in and didn't win, it actually came in second (Women's Novice 4+). The Women's Club 8+ dominated the rest of the field, finishing 15 seconds clear of the second-place boat.

"The athletes took advantage of the opportunities they had in front of them by working together and executing a successful day of racing," Head Coach Mike Lane said. "Winning the Champ 8+, the premier event of the day, was very exciting and is a great payoff for the investment of hard work the athletes have put in these past few months. The results of today show the depth of our program and I am excited to watch the growth and competition within the team and we head into our spring season."

The Head of the South concludes the fall slate for Jacksonville. The team will continue train throughout the winter months and be ready for a big spring as they look to reclaim the MAAC Championship.
