Berman Paces JU on Day One at Kiawah Island

KIAWAH ISLAND S.C. – Jacksonville University women's golf wrapped the first day of the Kiawah Island Spring Classic tied for 22nd in the field of 49.

Hannah Berman was the low scorer for JU, shooting even par in her first round.

Rain impacted the golf early, as the Dolphins were part of the second wave of tee times starting at 1:15 p.m. on the Osprey Point Golf Course. In the largest field in women's college golf, the Dolphins worked to feel out the course on the first day.

Berman birdied three of her last four holes to finish the day strong and sits in a tie for 17th. In a field of 254, there were only 16 rounds below par, so she is perfectly situated to make a push on day two. She finished with five total birdies, third most of any player on the day, four of them coming on the back nine. She was also tied for the best on Par-3s, in round one, shooting -1.

Maria Brunzell shot a 1-over 73, including back-to-back birdies on holes one and two. She finished even for the day on Par-3s and her 14 pars in the round were best on the team and tied for fourth best overall.

Amanda Detmer birdied her first hole and managed on all but five others to shoot an opening round 79. She was 1-under on Par-5s, tied for fourth best in the field.

Mawgan Vater was also 1-under for the day on Par-5s, and she shot a first round 81.

Louise Persson contributed to Jacksonville's 53 team pars on Sunday.

Round two starts tomorrow at 8:30 a.m., with shotgun starts again split between the morning and afternoon.
