ORLANDO, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's rowing team put forth a strong effort in Orlando on Friday opposite UCF, UConn and Central Oklahoma. The Dolphins posted a trio of second-place finishes to highlight another successful day on the water for the defending MAAC Champions.

The 2nd Varsity 8+ with coxswain Christina Mattiol, Carley Boyd, Melanie Carter, Rochelle Martinez, Alyson Hiles, Samantha Amadio, Ciara Devenuto-Wyeth, Katharina Dinsmore and Sofia Cooper pulled an impressive 7:05.7 en route to their second-place finish. The 1st Varsity 4+ (7:53.1) and the 3rd Varsity 8+ (7:19.54) took home the other two second place finishes to round out the highlights for the Dolphins. UCF took the wins in all three of those races but JU bested boats from UConn and UCO in each.

"I was really happy with the depth we displayed today," head coach Mike Lane said of the effort. "Beating UConn in the 3V8, 1V4 and 2V8 is evidence to our athletes that the hard work is paying off and we are working to make the program faster pushing from the bottom up!"

The remaining boats finished third or fourth in their respective races but head coach Mike Lane was able to find the positives. "Our 1V had a an aggressive race. However after going hard was unable to stay in the mix. It was good with respects to we know what we need to work on.  Next step working on those things Saturday when we race Stetson and Drake."

The Dolphins will face their first MAAC test on Saturday morning when it squares up with Stetson and Drake in Deland, Fla.
