BRASELTON, Ga. – Jacksonville University women's golf completed the 2019 ASUN Championship with a fifth-place finish on Tuesday at the Legends Course at Chateau Elan Golf Club.
The Dolphins best overall finisher was
Maria Brunzell, while
Amanda Detmer carded her lowest round of the week to record the best score of the day for JU.
"It wasn't the finish we were hoping for," said Head Coach
Jennifer Borocz. "The tough conditions go the best of us and there was some added pressure with only four players today, but it was a learning experience for everyone."
Brunzell, a senior, completed her JU career with another improved, consistent round, parlaying nine pars and two birdies, both on the back nine, into a team-best T14th place finish. She scored 78 for the second straight day to wrap the week.
Detmer, also a senior, put two frustrating days behind her to rally in round three. Her back nine was one of the best of anyone on the course all week, recording only one bogey while collecting five pars, four of them consecutively, before ending the day sinking three straight birdies for a 3-over 75. She finished tied for 20th in the field.
Hannah Berman added seven more pars and a birdie to her total on the week, wrapping with a 24th place finish and
Mawgan Vater had seven pars herself.
Louise Persson was forced to withdraw due to injury.
JU finished the week with 115 pars, 17 birdies and one of the only three eagles of the week, accomplished by Brunzell in round two. The Kalmar, Sweden native was also tied for the second best on Par-3s on the week, recording a collective score of +2 on such holes. Detmer's six birdies in the tournament were tied for third best on a challenging course.
"We just want to thank our three seniors Maria, Amanda and Louise for their hard work and dedication to the program," said Borocz. "They helped make it the best it's ever been and we wish them the best of luck in the next chapter of their lives.
"We also want to thank our assistant coach
Megan Collins, her presence will be missed."
