JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On Wednesday afternoon, Jacksonville University women's rowing Head Coach,
Mike Lane, announced that Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator,
Maggie Dwyer, has been elevated to the position of Associate Head Coach, effective immediately.
Dwyer initially joined the women's rowing staff as a graduate assistant on May 1, 2016 and was later promoted by Lane in January of 2017. She is a former four-year varsity rower and team captain at the University of Pennsylvania where she was coached by Lane in his previous role.
"I could not be more thrilled to elevate Maggie to the position of associate head coach," Lane said. "She is very deserving of this role as over the last three years the responsibilities of her job have grown exponentially. She is charged with recruiting future Dolphins, helping to run all logistics of JU rowing and has recently taken on the role of coordinating and running our spring Celebration of JU rowing! Not to mention, she is charged with coaching our Varsity fours group, which has excelled under her mentorship. She shows exceptional leadership around campus; being a graduating member of only the second-ever Jacksonville Leadership Academy, while also heading up the monthly assistant coach's roundtable to discuss best practices within our department. That is just a small list of what she has accomplished, and how she has made JU better."
Since arriving at JU, Dwyer has helped guide a trio of MAAC Championship teams and has the Dolphins positioned to defend their crown in a few weeks.
"I am very honored and humbled to be elevated to the position of Associate Head Coach," Dwyer said. "I can't thank Mike enough for bringing me here to JU and for allowing me grow and develop in my role. He has been a wonderful mentor to me and has given me the opportunity and confidence to take on many different things and contribute to the success of the program. The student-athletes and staff I'm surrounded by every day are what motivate me to be better, and I wouldn't be here without the support of all of them. I am excited to continue building on the momentum we have created so far this season as we strive for a 6th MAAC Championship!"
"I recruited Maggie out of high school to row at Penn," Lane continued. "I then recruited her to come coach with me at JU. Those have been two of the best decisions I have made in my twenty-year coaching career and I'm extremely excited to continue working to accomplish amazing things for JU rowing! We have won three MAAC Championships as a staff and plan to continue winning many more with the help of associate head coach Dwyer!"
