LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Jacksonville University men's basketball team (9-11, 3-7 ASUN) never really found a consisten rhythm on Saturday afternoon at Bellarmine (11-5, 8-2 ASUN) as the Knights clamped down and held the visiting side to a season-low point total in a loss, 63-44.
The Dolphins got a familiar boost from
Mo Arnold who continues to shine brightest on the road. The sophomore came into the game averaging just 7.2 points for the season but north of 10.0 points per game on the road. He contributed a team high 12 points while teammate
Loseni Kamara reached double-figures (10) for the first time in his career both at JU and elsewhere.
Cameron Boozer made the second start of his young career and seized the chance by collecting a career-best seven rebounds to go with two points, two steals and a block. Boozer is now second on the team with 11 blocks this season behind
Dontarius James (13) despite playing 434 minutes fewer than James.
The game was tied at 2-2 but Jacksonville never held a lead in the game. Bellarmine led by as many as 17 in the first half as JU battled some foul trouble and shooting woes. Jacksonville was able to cut the deficit to 15 a couple of times in the second half but wasn't able to find the stroke that has carried them to so many remarkable comebacks already this season. Bellarmine was able to lock in and keep the comeback-savvy Dolphins at bay to coast to the victory.
Jacksonville is currently slated to host Lipscomb on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 12-13 at 7 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively, inside Swisher Gym. Several changes this weekend to the ASUN slate as a result of COVID-19 challenges in other programs may cause that Dolphin schedule to change with just three weekends left in the regular season. As a reminder, the Dolphins will co-host the ASUN Championship tournament in March alongside North Florida.
