ORLANDO, Fla. – The Jacksonville University women's track and field team competed at the UCF Black & Gold Invite over the weekend and put forth multitude of career and nationally significant performances that highlighted a tremendous start to the 2021 season.
Three efforts stood out, two of which broke schools records. First, freshman
Kristi Snyman broke the school record in the High Jump at 1.78m (5'10") to win the event and post the top mark in the ASUN, the NCAA East Region and third highest in the NCAA overall.
Sade Meeks picked up where she left off in 2020, returning from an ACL injury to break the school record in the Shot Put by tossing 15.29m (50'2") to win that event as well, achieve the longest distance in the ASUN so far this season and 18th longest in the NCAA East Region. On the track,
Nicole Smith won the 100m with a time of 11.59w and finished second in the 200m at 24.07. Both of those times ranked atop the ASUN and were top 12 efforts in the NCAA East Region.
Some other Jacksonville field performances of note,
Adja Sackor took home the top prize in the Long Jump with a finals effort of 5.95m, besting the next closest competitor by 0.7m. She also claimed the third spot in the triple jump at 13.05m.
Alyssia Richard won the Discus Throw with a distance of 44.11m.
Alana Lecointe finished fifth in the same event with a throw of 40.19m. Richard fell in behind Meeks in the Shot Put as well, finished third with a toss of 14.20m
On the track,
Sadae Davidson and
Shalah Smiling joined Smith in the top 10 of the 200m posting times of 24.58 and 24.59, respectively.
Elizabeth Crosby landed a top 10 slot in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.79, good for seventh overall.
Sadie Morris (4:37.76), Luzaan de Wit (4:38.30) and
Emma Sullivan (4:43.81) finished third, fourth and sixth, respectively in the 1500m. That same trio, in the same order, finished third, fourth and fifth in the 800m with times of 2:11.53, 2:16.31 and 2:17.00, respectively.
The 4x400 relay team closed in third with a time of 3:53.13.
The next event for the program will be at USF on Apr. 2 & 3.
