Track And Field Concludes Regular Season At North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville track and field regular season has concluded, with the Dolphins finishing up at the UNF East Coast Relays on Saturday.

The best day of all on the final weekend of competition was had by jumper Julia Sue-Kam-Ling who secured second place in the long jump. Sue-Kam-Ling leapt a 6.28 mark, which was good for a new career-high for the former Honorable Mention All-American.

Not only was the jump the best of her career, it now stands as the best jump across the entire ASUN and punched Sue-Kam-Ling's ticket to the NCAA Regionals.

As a unit, Jacksonville secured a top-10 finish in the 4x100 relay, taking home seventh place overall.

Sprinter Joy Whittington posted a 16th place, 1:01.69 finish in the 400 hurdles. In the 400 dash, Kemaj Moore finished 18th with a time of 55.65. Mariandree Chacon led the squad in the 100 dash, securing a 21st place finish and a time of 11.88.

Taking to the longer distance side of things, Jacksonville had strong showings from Isabel Devos (13th), Jordan Dix (18th), Alexis Holmes (19th) and Madeline Weiler (21st). DeVos' time of 17:59.77 led the squad.

Now, the 'Phins set their sights on the postseason where a host of student-athletes will look to secure conference titles.

Chacon holds the ASUN's second-best time in the 100m and the 200m prior to championship competition. Whittington holds the second-best time in the 100m hurdles and the fifth best time in the 400 hurdles. Savannah Chadic, 400m, is tops in her event. The Dolphins are third overall in the 4x100 relay while being third in the 4x400 relay.

Sue-Kam-Ling (first), Samaryah White (second) and Ma'Kala Davis (third) all control the top-three spots in the long jump. Davis also holds he number one position in the triple jump.

The Atlantic Sun Conference Championship is May 14-18 hosted at the University of North Florida.

COACH'S COMMENTS
"I feel like the team has done a really good job," head coach Diego Vela said. "Our outdoor season has been great with several personal bests, a few conference rankings leaders and some East Regional qualifiers. In the next few days, we will focus on recovery and getting ready for the most important competition of the year."
