ATLANTA, Ga. - Jacksonville University men's soccer finished first in the ASUN coach's preseason poll after receiving four first place votes, the highest the team has been picked to finish in the past five years.
In addition to the top ranking, redshirt Junior Reed Davis was named ASUN Preseason Player of The Year and made the All-Conference Preseason team alongside redshirt freshman Nil Ringstrand and redshirt freshman Olivier Correa.
Davis, who garnered ASUN All-Tournament Team and ASUN All-Conference First Team honors after last season, returned in 2021 after battling injuries following a unanimous All-Freshman team campaign in 2018. Last season he started in all 13 contests, scoring a league-leading five goals, four of which came in ASUN play. Two of his goals were game-winners and the Dolphins were victorious in every game Davis scored.
As a freshman in 2018, Davis landed on the ASUN Second Team All-Conference, after appearing in each game for the Dolphins. He made the starting lineup in 15 contests and led the Dolphins in goals with six for the season.
Similar to Davis, Ringstrand had a stellar freshman campaign for the Dolphins. He played a key part in the Dolphins defense once he earned a spot in the starting lineup. Ringstrand made eight starts and contributed to six of JU's seven shutout victories
His efforts did not go unnoticed as he walked away from his first year with ASUN All-Tournament Team, ASUN All-Conference Second Team and ASUN All-Freshman Team honors.
Also heading into his second year with the Dolphins,
Olivier Correa was labeled a unanimous selection to the ASUN Preseason All-Conference Team.
Last season, Correa appeared in 12 games for JU, making the starting lineup in 10 contests. He finished the season with five goals and an assist, his five goals tied for first in the ASUN. Correa scored two of his goals in the ASUN tournament, one of which was the game-winner opposite Lipscomb to send JU to the ASUN Conference Tournament championship match.
His success helped him finish his first year with ASUN All-Tournament Team, ASUN All-Conference First Team and ASUN All-Freshman Team honors.Jacksonville will kick off the regular season against South Florida in Tampa on Thursday, August 26 at 7:00 p.m. and the ASUN title defense begins on September 18 with a rematch of the ASUN Championship Final in Ft. Myers.
