RALEIGH, N.C. – Jack Neill fired consecutive 68s and is the 36-hole leader at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate.
He helped lead Jacksonville University men's golf to a T4 standing on the leaderboard Saturday with one round to go at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
Neill's career day started with his lone blemish of the first round. He bogeyed his first hole, the Par-5 15th. That was followed by three pars before he really took off, making birdies on two of his next three before sinking four more pars in a row. Consecutive birdies on his 12th and 13th holes of the opening round led to a finish of four pars and a birdie to conclude his first 18.
Another bogey began his second round, followed by four consecutive pars and then four birdies over five holes. He had one more bogey, but added four pars and two more birdies for tournament-leading 11 on the day. He was the best in the field on both Par-3s and Par-4s, shooting 3-under on both. He matched his career-low round score, which he had recorded twice before as a freshman.
Alexandre Vandermoten joined his teammate in the top-10, as he is T10 through two rounds. He shot a first round 69, shaking off a tough start in which he recorded a double-bogey and bogey in two of his first three holes. He then made par or better in all but one hole the rest of the way, concluding the round with seven red numbers.
He followed that up with a steadier second round, registering 13 pars throughout his second 18, with another two birdies for nine total on the day.
Joseph Sullivan shot a 1-under 71 in the first round, sinking five birdies and nine pars throughout the 18. He followed that up with 13 pars and a birdie in his second round.
Filip Raza had five birdies in the first round and added one more in the second, while making 19 total pars on the day.
Brandon Valvano shot even par in the first round, and had 22 total pars on the day, tied for the team-high.
Josef Hacker, playing as an individual, made 20 pars and four birdies.
JU as a team was the best in the field on Par-3s, shooting a collective 3-under on the day, and was third-best on Par-4s. The 35 team birdies were tied for the most of any team.
Round three starts with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. and running through 9:10 a.m. Sunday morning.
