Huntsville, Ala – Jacksonville University men's cross country competed Saturday morning at the ASUN Men's Cross Country Championship.
The team had four runners finish in the top 100.
Riley Maher crossed the line as the Dolphins top finisher, with a time of 26:07.80. The Dolphins had their best finish since 2013.
According to Head Coach Jordan Garman "The goal for today was to recreate the effort we had at FSU. That would result in big improvement at this race. It was a rough day for some of our young guys, but I think they still did well. Those guys still helped us beat one team (something we have not done in a very long time), and compete with another. It is never easy being a freshmen who is expected to make the jump from 5K to 8K in a few months, but these young guys are ahead of where our top 4 guys were as freshmen, and that is huge.
"Riley is now on the JU leaderboards, and Tom is a few seconds behind him. Owen has had one of the best progressions I have seen in a runner, and Nico has overcome adversity to be a big contributor for our team. If our freshmen follow the lead of those four aforementioned returners, as I believe they will we will continue to improve drastically as a team".
The 8K event at John Hunt Park got started at 9:45 a.m., and featured runners from the other 13 colleges in the ASUN Conference.
