PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Alexandre Vandermoten shot a final round 68 and finished seventh in the John Hayt Intercollegiate at Sawgrass Country Club.
Jacksonville University men's golf finished 12th overall on Tuesday.
Vandermoten improved by two strokes from round one to round two, and carried that momentum in the third round, starting his day with a birdie and going on to card his lowest 18-hole score of the year. He sank five straight pars before his second birdie of the day. He gave a stroke back on his eighth hole of the day, but after steadying with a par after that, he made another birdie to start the back nine.
He made two straight birdies on 12 and 13 and closed his day with an eagle, birdie and two pars on his final four holes to register his second top-10 of the season.
Grant Haefner shot a 1-under 71, his best round of the week and climbed eight spots on the final day. He made back-to-back birdies to start the day, and after giving back a handful of strokes, he finished his front nine with a birdie to start his best stretch of golf of the day. He opened his back nine with six straight pars, sank consecutive birdies and closed with a par.
Individual
Jack Neill had the third-best round of the day by a Dolphin, making par on his entire first nine, and adding two birdies to go with four more pars to close out.
Filip Raza sank four birdies and seven pars in his third round and
Josef Hacker had four birdies and eight pars.
Joseph Sullivan made 10 pars and a birdie for his best round of the week.
Jacksonville was 6-under on Par-5s for the week, with Raza shooting a team-best 5-under and Haefner shooting 2-under on such holes. Vandermoten shot 1-under on Par-3s. The team had 138 pars and 44 birdies, as well as two eagles.
The team returns to the course on Saturday for the first two rounds of the Irish Creek Intercollegiate in Kannapolis, N.C.
