Two Dolphins in Top-10 After Day One of Irish Creek Collegiate

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Alexandre Vandermoten and Joseph Sullivan are both tied for eighth after day one of the Irish Creek Collegiate.
 
Jacksonville University men's golf is seventh with one round to play.
 
Vandermoten had a first round 70, with a steady first 18. After bogeying his first hole of the day, he rattled off four straight pars, followed by a birdie, six more pars in a row and then his final birdie of the round on hole 13. He then closed his round with five more pars.
 
He opened his second round red-hot. Three straight pars and four consecutive birdies made up a three-under-par front nine. He added three more birdies and four pars on his back nine, finishes with a 68 to move 10 spots up the leaderboard in round two.
 
Sullivan also shot a first round 70, sinking three front nine birdies. After a bogey to start the back nine, he made eight pars and a birdie to close out his first round. His second round went par-bogey-par to start, followed by three straight birdies. His back nine consisted of two birdies and seven pars for a 68 to mirror his teammate.
 
Filip Raza went 72-73 in his first day on the course, sinking three birdies and 11 pars. After he struggled a bit to start the second round, he made three birdies and 10 pars in his final 14 holes of the day.
 
Arkesh Bhatia started hit, with a first round 69. He made three birdies and five pars in the front nine, with two more birdies and five pars in his back nine. He gave back some in his second round, making two total birdies and 10 pars.
 
Jo Hacker made three birdies and 10 pars in his first round, trimming two strokes off in the second round with three birdies 12 pars.
 
Grant Haefner made 15 pars and two birdies in the first round, and had 12 more pars and a birdie to wrap his day.
 
JU was 12-under on the day on ePar-5s, with Sullivan leading the way at 4-under on such holes. Vandermoten was equally impressive on Par-4s, shooting 3-under on the day. Haefner was tied for third in the field with 27 pars, while Sullivan and Vandermoten led the team with nine total birdies.
 
The Dolphins tee off the final round from 8:00 a.m. to 8:54 a.m. tomorrow morning at the Club at Irish Creek.
