Men's Golf Competes on Day One of ASUN Championship

ATHENS, Ga. – Jacksonville University men's golf closed the first day of the ASUN Men's Golf Championship in eighth place.
 
Joseph Sullivan led the way, shooting a first round 73 Monday at UGA Golf Course and is T12.
 
After a steady front nine, where he made seven pars, the sophomore got hot on the back nine. He started the back with his seventh consecutive par, before sinking consecutive birdies. After giving a few strokes back, he rebounded to make three straight pars and a birdie to end it. His three birdies were tied for the third-most made in the first round.
 
Alexandre Vandermoten was one stroke back of his teammate, with a first round 74. He made three straight pars to open the day, and then made consecutive bogeys, before three more pars and a birdie to close his first nine holes. A bogey opened the back nine, before he ripped off seven straight pars and sits T19 after the first round. His 13 pars were the third-most for any player in the first 18.
 
Josef Hacker had eight front-nine pars, and added four more and a birdie on his back for a first round 76. Jack Neill had a pair of birdies in his first round, one on the front and one on the back. He also had nine pars. Brandon Valvano made nine pars and a birdie in his first 18.
 
JU shot 3-under on Par-5s, the second-best team score of the day, and collected 54 pars and eight birdies. Vandermoten led the team on Par-3s, shooting even par, the same score Sullivan shot on Par-4s to lead the Dolphins as well. Sullivan, Hacker and Valvano were all 1-under on Par-5s.
 
The second round starts on Monday morning, with Valvano going off at 8:45 a.m. to get the Dolphins rolling, with Sullivan the last off at 9:21 a.m.
