KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Joseph Sullivan fired a 3-under 68 to finish T5 at the Irish Creek Collegiate on Sunday.
Jacksonville University men's golf came home seventh as a team, with Alexander Vandermoten joining Sullivan as a top-25 finisher.
Sullivan entered the day tied for eighth after a second-round 68, and stayed hot on Sunday. He opened with a birdie before rattling off four straight pars. He then came to the Par-5 sixth and eagled it. After giving back a few strokes on eight and nine, he found his groove again on the back nine, scoring two birdies and seven pars to close the round. He set a new career-best 72-hole round score with a 206 over the two days at The Club at Irish Creek, beating his previous best of 212, which he had scored twice this season.
Vandermoten was not as strong on Sunday, but still came home T23. He bogeyed three, birdied five and parred all the rest on his front nine, before logging two bogeys and seven pars on the back nine for a final round 73.
Josef Hacker shot his best round of the week on Sunday, firing a 1-under 70. He scored biride on three of his first five holes of the day, and finished the front nine with four total. He added two more for a total of six on the day, a team-high.
Arkesh Bhatia made five birdies and sank seven pars in the individual spot, while
Filip Raza had four birdies and seven pars and
Grant Haefner had 12 pars in their final rounds.
JU was 16-under on Par-5s for the week, with Sullivan finishing second in the final on such holes, shooting 8-under. Vandermoten was most successful on Par-4s, leading the team with a 2-under score.
Haefner's 39 pars were tied for fifth in the field and Bhatia, Hacker and Sullivan tied for the team-high with 12 birdies each and Sullivan carding the team's lone eagle of the week.
JU heads to Spartanburg, S.C. on Monday, April 11 to take part in the Wofford Intercollegiate, the final tune-up before the ASUN Championship.
