Trio of Dolphins Earn USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American Honors

Sparks, Md. - Colin Hinton, Troy Hettinger, and Max Waldbaum were named All-Americans by USA Lacrosse Magazine, it was announced on Tuesday.

Hinton earned Third Team honors, while Hettinger and Waldbaum were selected to the Honorable Mention list. The trio become the first Dolphins to collect postseason honors from the magazine.

"I couldn't be happier for the recognition these guys are starting to receive," head coach John Galloway said. "Colin Hinton was the best defender in our conference, and it showed on a weekly basis with every #1 matchup he took on. Troy Hettinger is the best kept secret in the country. What he does at his position is as good as I have ever seen it as a player or a coach. Max Waldbaum stormed onto the scene for us this year, and changed the culture of our program from day one. I know this is just the beginning of their recognition, and it is well deserved."

The 2022 Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Hinton was named to the 2022 SoCon First Team. The Kensington, Md. product finished second on the team with 41 groundballs, adding 16 caused turnovers on the campaign. The Halifax Thunderbirds draftee was named a Midseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse earlier this year. Hinton is the first Dolphin to be named SoCon Defensive Player of the Year since Hunter Forbes in 2018.

Named a Team Captain prior to the season, Hettinger was an integral part of the Dolphins' success this season. Scoring six goals and handing our four assists on the offensive side, Hettinger also collected 22 groundballs and caused eight turnovers on the campaign. The Ellicott City, Md. native was named an Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-American this season.

In his first year on the Dolphins, Waldbaum finished second on JU with 48 goals, while adding 24 assists and collecting 35 groundballs. The Denver, Colo. native was named a Team Captain prior to the season, collecting weekly honors from the conference, Inside Lacrosse and the USILA on Feb. 15. A Tewaaraton Award Watch List member, Waldbaum stuffed the stat sheet with 5+ points on nine occasions this season.

The trio helped Jacksonville to their first national ranking, first 10-win season, most wins in a single-season and first Regular Season title as a member of the SoCon. The Dolphins had numerous notable wins on the campaign, including victories over #2 Duke, #14 Denver and #17 Richmond, the first season with multiple ranked wins in program history.
